Crossway Scaffolding Group is involved in the renovation of the Saltburn Railway Viaduct — a Victorian-style structure built in 1860 in the United Kingdom. The viaduct holds significant historical value for North Yorkshire and is still actively used by freight and cargo trains on a daily basis.
Network Rail commissioned Crossway Scaffolding Group to design and erect a scaffold to allow safe access to the viaduct. The Saltburn Railway Viaduct measures over 200 metres in length and stands 40 metres high. The complete scaffold structure comprises approximately 1,000 tonnes of material and was assembled over the course of six months.
The scaffold was constructed using Tube-Lock® tubes supplied by Van Thiel United. Tube-Lock® offers speed and ease of use — tubes can be securely connected with a simple twist, without the need for additional components. No staggered joints are required, and the Tube-Lock® connection is just as strong as a full-length tube. In fact, it is certified to handle tensile loads.
The scaffold base was constructed using equipment from RMD. Cantilever brackets were anchored to the viaduct using bolts, forming the foundation upon which the rest of the scaffold was built.
